Upper Montclair is home to the 07043 zip code, Montclair State University, Edgemont & Anderson Parks, the Iris Presby Gardens, a couple of NYC train stations, the iconic Bellevue Theatre, and ‘Uptown’.  Upper Montclair boasts fantastic restaurants and art, as well as amazing local and national stores like Williams Sonoma and Athleta (Coming Fall 2022). It’s the perfect place to leisurely stroll, sip, dine and walk.

Dining:

Tinga

Tinga has been serving up family-friendly and fresh Tex-Mex food for over a decade with their menu boasting tacos, burritos, sandwiches, and salads. They just constructed a newly built outdoor patio in the back of the restaurant to accommodate more customers in addition to their party room next door. A crowd favorite is their BBQ Chicken Burrito which wraps  BBQ chicken, rice, cheese, and beans all in one delicious tomato tortilla. Who could also forget the chips and salsa they serve while you wait!

The Turtle + The Wolf

Located in the old Five Guys space, The Turtle + The Wolf serves eclectic American fare including pasta, chicken, seafood and beef dishes. Their fried chicken even has a wait-list you have to call ahead for, and it’s absolutely worth the hype!

DeNovo European Pub

DeNovo European Pub is located right at the Upper Montclair train station and serves European fare with a modern twist including pasta, salads, starters, meat, fish, and desserts. DeNovo’s lunch and dinner menus boast an extensive beer, craft cocktail, and wine list that you can enjoy at their chic bar. DeNovo’s second location can be found on River Road in Edgewater, but we’re obviously partial to Uptown’s spot!

Little Daisy Bake Shop

If you’re looking to indulge in scrumptious fresh handmade goods, you must head to The Little Daisy Bake Shop. The bakery prides itself in using fresh ingredients as well as being tree nut and peanut-free. The store sells fresh-baked cupcakes, cookies, and cakes. They also sell DIY cakes so that you could bake them yourself at home- it’s a win-win!

Shopping:

This is a relatively new spot on the Upper Montclair shopping scene, and we couldn’t be happier about it! Houss Freya has a little something for everyone. You’ll discover handmade products by owner Daysi Dedios, and the shop sells scented candles, body oils, sprays, crystals, and jewelry. Starting this month, Houss Freya will be hosting tarot readings and energy healing events in the store. Go to the store’s website for this month’s calendar of events and you’ll be so impressed!

Howell

If you are looking for unique décor for your home, head on over to Howell. Located on Valley Road next to News Plus, Howell has been in business for over a decade. It’s a small but mighty store and is jammed packed with fantastic tableware, pillows, candles, wall mirrors, and table linens. You will be sure to find something to add a little pizzazz to your home.

In case you missed it, two national retailers will be making their debut right in Uptown. Near the end of this month, J. McLaughlin will be opening at 219 Bellevue Ave. in the former Lotus Pond Wellness location next to Beyond The Bagel and in late fall Athleta, which will be moving into the old Gap space at 629 Valley Road.

In two weeks, let’s explore the Watchung Plaza neighborhood together. Until then, see you soon Montclair!
